What’s people’s thoughts on the council tax considerations in the labour manifesto ?
Comments
Paul Field It’s a big consideration if you also earn more than £80k a year to pay the mortgage to buy that house and your peronal tax goes up as well. And you earn that money through a company that will be charged an extra 6% corporation tax a year
Gemma Watkins Paul Field it’s interesting because I can only find the figure for 100k plus earners and that’s 1.2million
Roger Lewis http://www.labour.org.uk/…/splash/so-called-garden-tax…
What is the source of these figures? They are made up Labour have not published any and have no plans for this?

Gemma Watkins I believe it’s called garden tax –
The policy has been driven by the Labour Land Campaign, a working group praised by Jeremy Corbyn and John McDonnell, and is regarded by its supporters as a fairer way of taxing property.

The campaign proposes a “standard rate” of 3 per cent of the value of land, which would be applied to 55 per cent of a home’s value (based on the assumption that land accounts for 55 per cent of a property’s value). The tax would be levied on 100 per cent of the value of vacant plots.
The average house price in England in March 2017 was £232,530, meaning an annual tax bill of £3,837 based on a 3 per cent tax on 55 per cent of the value.
Gemma Watkins This actual table was on someone else’s wall ……
Roger Lewis Gemma, The Single Land Tax is an old alternative form of taxation, which was proposed by Henry George and which would replace all income tax. The Lib Dems used to be its main exponents.
The table you have posted has no source, where is it from? it is not from a Labour source and is not in the Labour Manifesto.
Labours Taxation proposals are to lighten the burden on the less well-off, that’s those earning less than 80k P:A. Its Theresa May that has proposed dementia tax, Gemma.
Please could you provide me the source of this table, it is Fake News. And I would like to engage with its Authors.

Roger Lewis The degree of Economic Illiteracy in the Tory Party is huge , as it is in politics generally. Take the Magic money tree for instance.
Tweet Amber Rudd, who stood in for Theresa…

Roger Lewis Gemma Watkins Whilst it is an “Actual Table” Gemma it is not a Labour Party Actual Table. It is fake news, does the Actual table on the other person’s actual wall also have a Link to the original source, you know the actual source?
😂

Andy Keenan It’s not a realistic or affordable proposition to have such a rise especially when so many people are already struggling.
Roger Lewis Andy it is not even a proposal it is a scaremongering speculation.
