In the spirit of the Stockholm Declaration that states: “With humanity still scarred by …antisemitism and xenophobia the international community shares a solemn responsibility to fight those evils” the committee on Antisemitism and Holocaust Denial called the IHRA Plenary in Budapest 2015 to adopt the following working definition of antisemitism. On 26 May 2016, the Plenary in Bucharest decided to: Adopt the following non-legally binding working definition of antisemitism:

“Antisemitism is a certain perception of Jews, which may be expressed as hatred toward Jews. Rhetorical and physical manifestations of antisemitism are directed toward Jewish or non-Jewish individuals and/or their property, toward Jewish community institutions and religious facilities.”

To guide IHRA in its work, the following examples may serve as illustrations:

Manifestations might include the targeting of the state of Israel, conceived as a Jewish collectivity. However, criticism of Israel similar to that leveled against any other country cannot be regarded as antisemitic. Antisemitism frequently charges Jews with conspiring to harm humanity, and it is often used to blame Jews for “why things go wrong.” It is expressed in speech, writing, visual forms and action, and employs sinister stereotypes and negative character traits. Contemporary examples of antisemitism in public life, the media, schools, the workplace, and in the religious sphere could, taking into account the overall context, include, but are not limited to:

 Calling for, aiding, or justifying the killing or harming of Jews in the name of a radical ideology or an extremist view of religion.

 Making mendacious, dehumanizing, demonizing, or stereotypical allegations about Jews as such or the power of Jews as collective — such as, especially but not exclusively, the myth about a world Jewish conspiracy or of Jews controlling the media, economy, government or other societal institutions.

 Accusing Jews as a people of being responsible for real or imagined wrongdoing committed by a single Jewish person or group, or even for acts committed by non-Jews.

 Denying the fact, scope, mechanisms (e.g. gas chambers) or intentionality of the genocide of the Jewish people at the hands of National Socialist Germany and its supporters and accomplices during World War II (the Holocaust).

Hajo Meyer (12 August 1924 – 23 August 2014) was a Jewish GermanDutch physicist and an anti-Zionist political activist.[1][2]

Early life[edit]

Born in Bielefeld, in 1938 Meyer fled Nazi Germany to the Netherlands alone, without his parents.[3] He went into hiding in 1943, but was arrested after a year and spent ten months in Auschwitz. His parents, who had also been deported to Auschwitz from Germany, did not survive.[citation needed]

Post-Holocaust[edit]

After the war, Meyer returned to the Netherlands, and studied theoretical physics. He eventually became director of the Phillips Physics Laboratory (NatLab). After his retirement he took courses in Englandand worked as a builder of new violins and violas.[citation needed]

Later career[edit]

In his later years, Meyer became politically active, including as director of A Different Jewish Voice. He wrote Het einde van het Jodendom (The End of Judaism) in 2003, which accuses Israel of abusing the Holocaust to justify crimes against the Palestinians. He was a member of the International Jewish Anti-Zionist Network. He participated in the 2011 “Never Again – For Anyone” tour. He claimed Zionism predates fascism, that Zionists and fascists had a history of cooperation (Nazi/Zionist cooperation was the subject of 51 Documents: Zionist Collaboration with the Nazis, which was collected and edited by Lenni Brenner), charging, among other things, that Israel wants to foment anti-Semitism in the world to encourage more Jews to migrate to Israel.[4]
Meyer spoke in favor of Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions against Israel.[5] Meyer was a member of the Dutch GreenLeft.[citation needed]

Death[edit]

On 23 August 2014, Meyer died in his sleep in Heiloo, Netherlands at the age of 90.[citation needed]

Reproducing the Discussion in full has been frustrated or impeded by the strident hysterics of @closely_watched Bohumil Hairball. I was accused in the strongest terms with the worse sorts of Adhominem and straw man mendacity, failing to meet his target the Sorry Hairball seems rather to have choked on his own split hairs it seems. And blocked me and deleted his disproved allegations.

Some thoughts to help consider the above with respect to Context, Motivation and the Gnashers own preferred definition of Anti Semitism. Vis.

 Context and Motivation

A certain mother habitually rewards her small son with ice cream after he eats his spinach. What 2 additional information would you need to be able to predict whether the child will: a. Come to love or hate spinach, b. Love or hate ice cream, or c. Love or hate Mother? We devoted one or two sessions of the class to exploring the many ramifications of this question, and it became clear to me that all the needed additional information concerned the context of the mother ‘ s and son’s behaviour. In fact, the phenomenon of context and the closely related phenomenon of “meaning ” defined a divisionbetween the “hard” sciences and the sort of science which I was trying to build. Gradually I discovered that what made it difficult to tell the class what the course was about was the fact that my way of thinking was different from theirs (Bateson)

 

 In a review which appeared in the Historische Zeitschrift journal on 2 April 1986 Klaus Hildebrand called Nolte’s essay “Between Myth and Revisionism” “trailblazing”.[50] In the same review Hildebrand argued Nolte had in a praiseworthy way sought:

“to incorporate in historicizing fashion that central element for the history of National Socialism and of the “Third Reich” of the annihilatory capacity of the ideology and of the regime, and to comprehend this totalitarian reality in the interrelated context of Russian and German history”.[51]

The philosopher Helmut Fleischer, in an essay first published in the Nürnberger Zeitung newspaper on September 20, 1986, defended Nolte against Habermas on the grounds that Nolte was only seeking to place the Holocaust into a wider political context of the time.[64] Fleischer accused Habermas of seeking to impose on Germans a left-wing moral understanding of the Nazi period and of creating a “moral” Sondergericht (Special Court).[65] Fleischer argued that Nolte was only seeking the “historicization” of National Socialism that Martin Broszat had called for in a 1985 essay by trying to understand what caused National Socialism, with a special focus on the fear of communism.[66]

This article makes the assumption that there is only one zionism.
It would be a mistake to assume there is only one Jew and to be anti-Jew because of the actions of one person.
It is also possible that deciding to be anti-zionist because you find Netanyahu-zionism appalling is a similar mistake.
How did Netanyahu-zionism – an extreme form of zionism – get to define zionism?
I personally reject Netanyahu-zioinism because in my view it cannot lead to a solution to existing problems in the middle east. It can only make those problems worse and worse.
That does not mean I reject zionism – the zionism of the early years of the state as practised by the few Israelis I knew. My understanding of their vision and their life seemed to me something that could have led to a stable future.
That was pre-wall, pre-extreme settlement policy days.
I am not convinced that Netanyahu-zionism was an inevitable outcome of those days. I could be wrong. I am not sure how anyone could prove that Netanyahu-zionism is the only possible zionism. I certainly don’t understand why so many people act as if Netanyahu-zionism is the only possible zionism.
