She didn’t need them, to be humiliated, May’s totally humiliated herself. The EU has been totally consistent for two years. They can’t do any more.

Theresa May was humiliated by European leaders late last night after they rejected pleas for any further concessions to get her Brexit deal through parliament. France and Ireland led a move to…

Dew Diesel Ohh God so they too want to see a no deal Brexit? ‘We will not negotiate’ is such a shit negotiation position but I guess they really meant it. Nice one Macron.Hide thisHide 21 Replies

Ashley Drake No. A complete misreading of the situation Dewi. Two key factors at play which made this inevitable:
1. She insisted on certain ‘red lines’ including out of the Single Market and out of the Customs Union. She wouldn’t budge on that.
2. The Good Friday Agreement re. the UK border in Ireland.Once she made it clear she wasn’t prepared to contemplate staying in the Customs Union the EU had no option but to insist on upholding international law as a signatory of the GFA. There is no room to manoeuvre if the UK is demanding a complete separation.

Dew Diesel Ashley Drake She went to get some reassurances that the 2 year interim agreement terms would not lead to it being a permanent one. They gave her the opposite of reassurance and actually REMOVED terms that were current reassurances (if a little vague). The whole potential success of her deal agreement took two steps back. They did that to us and I find it sad. That means a no deal Brexit which is the worst position for all. That isn’t a result. It could have been negotiated better IMHO by both sides. We are now in a worse position. She’ll never get it through now…Hide this

Paul Sambrook Dew Diesel shock, horror, EU has its own agenda and wants to exploit holding the whip hand. Didn’t spot that one coming.Hide this

Dew Diesel I don’t care about their agenda, muscle or posturing or anyone else’s – particularly those destructive Brexiteer right wingers views.. I’m not about the politics. I care about the effects on us as people and this doesn’t help. I also don’t care about blame as it doesn’t help me. I care about consequences. Forget the politics and think people – this is not good for any of us.Hide this

Ashley Drake You need to think more expansively Dewi. You seem to be swallowing the UK media line that the nasty Europeans stitched up poor Blighty. It’s the complete opposite. They haven’t removed anything. They simply refused to get involved in internal Tory Party politics. It’s very sensible – like they’ve been throughout.Hide this

Dew Diesel I don’t think that simply as I am pretty neutral. I wonder if I’m actually more objective as they seem perfect in your eyes mate and on everything?Hide this

Ashley Drake Dew Diesel You’re not neutral Dewi. Your first response is normally rather anti-EU. It’s very noticeable. You did it twice just today.Hide this

Dew Diesel As someone who would vote remain again I still feel I am pretty neutral as I hope to think I am free to make up my own mind about all facets and all issues rather than stick to a strong single minded position such as yours. I respect your passion and conviction but not how you present it sometimes. Other views do exist.Hide this

Ashley Drake Come on Dewi. You stated above that you’re ‘not about the politics of Brexit’ when the whole thing is based on politics. You then make a statement – that the EU withdrew elements from the agreement – which is totally false. You didn’t invent that lie yourself so where did you get the ‘fake news’? You’re getting it from somewhere and giving it equal credence when it’s purposefully distorting the situation.
There is no upside to Brexit. We must stick together and fight the bastards. It’s finally going our way. May is finished, the Tories completely split and there for the taking.Hide this -

In the very short news cycles we see these days a re-cap as to what happened when and who said what about it is often informative.
