Final Note
231. Throughout this article we’ve made imprecise statements and statements that ought to have had all sorts of qualifications and reservations attached to them; and some of our statements may be flatly false. Lack of sufficient information and the need for brevity made it impossible for us to formulate our assertions more precisely or add all the necessary qualifications. And of course in a discussion of this kind one must rely heavily on intuitive judgment, and that can sometimes be wrong. So we don’t claim that this article expresses more than a crude approximation to the truth.
232. All the same, we are reasonably confident that the general outlines of the picture we have painted here are roughly correct. Just one possible weak point needs to be mentioned. We have portrayed leftism in its modern form as a phenomenon peculiar to our time and as a symptom of the disruption of the power process. But we might possibly be wrong about this. Oversocialized types who try to satisfy their drive for power by imposing their morality on everyone have certainly been around for a long time. But we THINK that the decisive role played by feelings of inferiority, low self-esteem, powerlessness, identification with victims by people who are not themselves victims, is a peculiarity of modern leftism. Identification with victims by people not themselves victims can be seen to some extent in 19th-century leftism and early Christianity, but as far as we can make out, symptoms of low self-esteem, etc., were not nearly so evident in these movements, or in any other movements, as they are in modern leftism. But we are not in a position to assert confidently that no such movements have existed prior to modern leftism. This is a significant question to which historians ought to give their attention.

Market power also means more than just the ability to manipulate prices,
collude or use mark-ups. Galbraith (2007 [1967]) explained the modern industrial
economy as consisting of two sectors: one in which producers are small, lack
power and subject to competition, and the other in which producers are large,
have considerable power and run by professional managers (the technostructure).
The problem which Galbraith then exposed was the close relationship the technos-
tructure develops with politicians and regulators. This is particularly relevant to
climate change because the energy and transportation sectors are dominated by
large national and international corporations able to access considerable resources
and lobby politicians to achieve institutional arrangements suited to their own
ends.
The inability of sinks to compensate economically for increased sources adds
further complexity. For example, afforestation and soil management are supposed
means of compensation, but economic compensation means an equivalent welfare
change. That is the source-related harms must equate to the sink-created goods.
This means assessing the damages and social problems created by forestry
schemes (such as peasant dislocation and resistance, privatisation of common
lands, acidification of soils, excessive water use, inappropriate plantings for
environmental conditions). Thus, Lohmann (2006b: 38) claims the IPCC report
on ‘Land Use, Land Use Change and Forestry’ which backed equivalence and
‘trading trees’, as he puts it, failed to address such complexities and assumed
them away. The reason appears to be national self-interest, as he states:
What becomes clear from across
Lohman’s case studies is a disregard for local communities and their concerns.
Those implementing such offset schemes seem to lack the skills to understand
and address the problems of people in some of the poorest areas of the world.
For example, inappropriate exotic species and monocultures used for forestry
have resulted in communities trying to maintain trees which die due to poor soil
conditions, are lost due to fires and drought and which displace more sustainable
practices and take away people’s livelihoods. This is more damning because of the
aforementioned claim of offsets to support sustainable development.

‘Dirty’ Industries: Just between you and me, shouldn’t the World Bank be encouraging MORE migration of the dirty industries to the LDCs [Least Developed Countries]? I can think of three reasons:
1) The measurements of the costs of health impairing pollution depends on the foregone earnings from increased morbidity and mortality. From this point of view a given amount of health impairing pollution should be done in the country with the lowest cost, which will be the country with the lowest wages. I think the economic logic behind dumping a load of toxic waste in the lowest wage country is impeccable and we should face up to that.
2) The costs of pollution are likely to be non-linear as the initial increments of pollution probably have very low cost. I’ve always thought that under-populated countries in Africa are vastly UNDER-polluted, their air quality is probably vastly inefficiently low compared to Los Angeles or Mexico City. Only the lamentable facts that so much pollution is generated by non-tradable industries (transport, electrical generation) and that the unit transport costs of solid waste are so high prevent world welfare enhancing trade in air pollution and waste.
3) The demand for a clean environment for aesthetic and health reasons is likely to have very high income elasticity. The concern over an agent that causes a one in a million change in the odds of prostrate[sic] cancer is obviously going to be much higher in a country where people survive to get prostrate[sic] cancer than in a country where under 5 mortality is 200 per thousand. Also, much of the concern over industrial atmosphere discharge is about visibility impairing particulates. These discharges may have very little direct health impact. Clearly trade in goods that embody aesthetic pollution concerns could be welfare enhancing. While production is mobile the consumption of pretty air is a non-tradable.
The problem with the arguments against all of these proposals for more pollution in LDCs (intrinsic rights to certain goods, moral reasons, social concerns, lack of adequate markets, etc.) could be turned around and used more or less effectively against every Bank proposal for liberalization.

the the nature of the
04:44
ultimate revolution with which we are
04:46
now faced is precisely this that we are
04:50
in process of developing a whole series
04:53
of techniques which will enable the
04:58
controlling oligarchy who have always
05:01
existed and presumably always will exist
05:04
to get people actually to love their
05:10
servitude though this you see seems to
05:13
me the the ultimate in malevolent
05:16
revolutions where we say and this is a
05:19
this is a problem which has interested
05:22
me for many years and about which I
05:25
wrote 30 years ago a fable the brave new
05:28
world which is essentially the account
05:32
of a society making use of all the
05:36
devices at that time available and some
05:40
of the devices which I imagined to be
05:44
possible making use of them in order to
05:47
first of all to
05:49
standard a is the population to iron out
05:53
I inconvenient human dis differences to
05:58
create so to say mass-produced two
06:02
models of human beings arranged in some
06:06
kind of a scientific caste system I was there for free in a
08:59
way which Orwell was not free but to
09:02
think about these other methods of
09:04
control the these nonviolent methods and
09:10
my I’m inclined to think that the
09:14
scientific dictatorships of the future
09:17
and I think they’re going to be
09:18
scientific dictatorships in many parts
09:20
of the world will be probably a good
09:23
deal nearer to the brave new world
09:26
pattern then to the 1984 pattern they
09:30
will be a good yanira not because of any
09:33
humanitarian qualms in the design
09:35
typically caters but simply because the
09:39
brave new world pattern is probably a
09:41
good deal more efficient than the other
09:42
but if you can get people to consent to
09:47
the state of affairs in which they are
09:49
living the state of servitude the state
09:51
of being having their differences ironed
09:53
out and being made amenable to mass
09:57
production methods on the social level
10:00
if you can do this then you have you are
10:04
likely to have a much more stable and
10:07
much more lasting society much more
10:10
easily controllable society than you
10:12
would if you were relying
10:13
holy on clubs and firing squads and
10:17
concentration camps so that my own
10:21
feeling is that the 1984 picture was
10:25
tinged of course by the immediate past
10:30
and the present in which or where was
10:32
living but a team that the past and
10:34
present of those years does not
10:37
represent I feel the likely trend of
10:42
what is going to happen needless to say
10:44
we shall never get rid of terrorism this
10:46
will always find its way to the surface
10:49
but I think that insofar as dictators
10:54
become more and more scientific more and
10:57
more concerned with a technically
10:59
perfect perfectly running society they
11:03
will be more and more interested in the
11:06
kind of techniques which I imagined and
11:12
described from existing realities in
11:15
brave new world so that it seems to me
11:22
then that this ultimate revolution is
11:24
really not very far away that we already
11:28
the a number of the techniques for
11:31
bringing about this kind of controller
I mean this Charles Darwin
54:36
insists that because man is wild he can
54:40
never expect to to domesticate himself
54:44
because the people on top would always
54:46
be undomesticated in sooner or later
54:49
always run wild I I think there’s a good
54:52
deal to be said for this this part of
54:55
you in
54:56
regard to the permanence of any
54:58
dictatorship yes I have a question
55:04
worried about a relationship that seems
55:07
to exist between cost consent and
55:10
control if a government wants to control
55:13
its people of course this job will be
55:15
easier if they are more willing to
55:17
consent and the job will be
55:19
correspondingly more costly if the
55:22
corresponding consent isn’t there
55:24
could you make a few remarks about the
55:27
economic feasibility of introducing
55:29
biological controls of the sort to Port
55:31
Authority I don’t know I mean wouldn’t
55:34
it I would have thought in some ways
55:36
it’ll be cheaper than maintaining very
55:38
large security forces and concentration
55:41
camps and so the – I mean just as in
55:46
asylums chemical control is a great deal
55:50
of simpler and cheaper than physical
55:52
control I mean the the bad old days of
55:55
straight jackets and manacles and so on
55:59
required quite a lot of of people to
56:05
handle the insane whereas the
56:08
tranquilizers seem to require a lot much
56:11
fewer I mean it prepared quite interesting
72:24
and serious aspects to it on sort of the
72:27
hypothetical
72:30
Cold War action on the part of the
72:35
dictatorial powers who were able to make
72:38
use of eugenics in ways which would not
72:42
test this although his name I cannot now
72:44
remember and where I which were not
72:48
necessarily very tyrannical because of
72:50
the after all the the woman would be
72:53
allowed to marry whomever she liked but
72:56
who provided she had the children by
72:58
selected two fathers outside the
73:03
relationship so that I mean there would
73:05
be the the actual personal relationships
73:07
between husband and wife would not be
73:08
modified seriously but I mean this as I
73:12
say was it was a fantasy but he again it
73:15
looked like a fantasy which could quite
73:19
likely come true and who could as the
73:22
geneticists I think are all agree II do
73:24
could certainly lead to considerable
73:27
results of course on a huge NX to take
73:31
place on a in a rapid way you would have
73:34
to be able to control the and not merely
73:38
the male genetic factors but the female
73:41
which is cause much more difficult but
73:44
not impossible I imagine I’ve one
73:47
written question here I’d like to read
73:49
out herself now the population explosion
73:51
is a grave danger to mankind yet the
73:54
right to bear children is a right of
73:56
free well the only apparent way to stem
73:59
this explosion is by some large-scale
74:00
kind of conditioning or external
74:03
coercion that this is also a grave
74:05
danger is there any way out of this
74:07
dilemma
74:10
well the way out of the dilemma shawl is
74:12
being pointed out when in most countries
74:15
of the West where people voluntarily
74:17
have limited the size of their families
74:21
I mean this has happened without any
74:22
coercion and unless you call the desire
74:25
to have a good economic life and to
74:29
bring up your children well or coercion
74:31
what William
78:26
James talked about of getting people to
78:29
realize that the their Ordinaries or
78:33
common sense view of the world is not
78:34
the only view that the University in
78:38
habit is not the only possible universe
78:40
and there are other very strange
78:43
universes which some people
78:44
spontaneously inhabit in a man like
78:47
William Blake obviously inhabit some
78:49
extremely different universe from that
78:52
which most people inhabit and I I think
78:55
it’s probably very wholesome for people
78:58
to to be permitted to realize this fact
79:02
to perceive that the the world of the
79:05
mind is immensely large and that there
79:07
are these very strange and extraordinary
79:09
areas in them and and there are plenty
79:13
of cases in the literature whether these
79:16
kind of experiences have produced a kind
79:18
of conversion the work which was being
79:21
done at Harvard now by Leary a prison
79:25
only local prisons in Boston it’s very
79:28
interesting a sort of a series of
79:30
extraordinary conversion experiences
79:34
among hardened criminals that have
79:36
emerged from the isn’t here again there
79:39
may be I mean we don’t know enough about
79:41
the subject here today there may be
79:45
possibilities of very great importance
79:47
here of removing obstacles I mean the
79:54
the justification it was stated by
79:57
barracks are years ago when he was
79:59
defending William James against his use
80:02
of nitrous oxide our number of fellow
80:07
philosophers thought this was infra dig
80:09
that eminent philosopher should resort
80:13
to these chemical means which enabled
80:16
them in James remark that her only under
80:19
nitrous oxide could he understand what
80:21
ego meant
80:27
verax I said the Tobit must be realized
80:30
that the experiences which mr. James
80:34
described are not caused by the gas the
80:39
gas is merely the occasion the gases
80:42
remove certain obstacles which might
80:45
have been removed equally well by
80:47
psychological or psychophysical means
80:49
so-called spiritual exercises of the
80:52
various religions but it can also be
80:56
removed by these chemical means and that
80:59
if you can do so without doing harm to
81:02
yourself so much the better
81:04
and incidentally it’s one of the
81:07
greatest tragedies I think in
81:10
psychological research that the James I
81:14
think about nineteen five made an
81:18
experiment with peyote and Eddy head of
81:21
other weak stomach all that he got was
81:24
violent vomiting he said I’m afraid I
81:27
must take the visions for granted I got
81:29
only the nausea and it’s a it’s an awful
81:32
pity if he’d had a stronger stomach wish
81:34
to had this research beginning fifty
81:36
years ago but his weak stomach prevented
81:40
this and we’ve had to wait too much
81:41
later to get this thing really going

The first truth is that the liberty of a democracy is not safe if the people tolerate the growth of private power to a point where it becomes stronger than their democratic state itself. Switzerland. Neutral, wealthy, and peaceful, the home of direct democracy. But is it also the birthplace of populism?

When back in March, Steve Bannon embarked on his tour to unite Europe’s populist parties, he gave his first public address in Zurich.
Switzerland is where the anti-globalist fightback began, he told his audience, when its people said no to joining the European Community in a referendum in 1992.
Now it may retreat further still, as the Swiss prepare to scrap international treaties in favour of national laws.
Gabriel Gatehouse has the story of populism vs globalism, an epic battle for our

OMG BBC are you stupid? Equating Populism and Direct Democracy with the far right? Assuming that the majority want tyranny? 16:18 you even say it yourself, “Stories have power”. You muppets! There is actually such a thing as the “Wisdom of The Crowds” and the “Positive Network Effect”, but that only works when people are properly informed!!
How is one meant to win an election without being popular? What is democracy if it’s not the population making choices?? Why do you assume the majority want tyranny?? This is “We know better than you-ism” 3.0 and is pushing them in that direction. It seems to be on purpose. Reverse psychology style.

Unfortunately Populist have been growing heavily in the last 15 years in Switzerland. Even they have only 30% in the national parliament, they have won a few initiative-votes in the last years. All of them were really about populism. One was about banning minarets – even though in Switzerland are only 3 minarets since a long time and not one single more was planned to be built in future. If somebody next to this mosques would have had a problem with it, there are plenty of other direct democratic ways in switzerland to settle it. Nobody did so.
The next one was about deporting all criminal foreigners, f.ex for stealing – no matter if it is a 10$-shoplifter living in 3rd generation in Switzerland with no connection to his homeland. It was clear from the very start, that this could lead to a lot of hardship cases. However, they did not make an adequate legal initiative text.
The last was about stopping mass immigration, which would have led to cancel all of the economically important contracts with the EU. While their main argument was, that by no means they will be cancelled – since Switzerland is so is so important to the EU. It turned out – they don’t give a fuck.
So to come to a conclusion – none of their people initiative was launched from the people but from a party. And none did solve any problem, despite the party could constantly brag about the politicans not executing the will of the people.
Do you have any idea of the system in Switzerland?

Fair enough, but I don’t think the target UK audience is likely to vote in a populist fascist (unless Borris gets in). I think they are targeting it at the “tyranny” of the popular Left wing like Burney/Corbyn.

Direct democracy is normally pushed by fringe groups and the far-right political parties.
An example is Australia. The only party that pushes direct democracy is the CEC which are the most far-right of all parties in Australia. What I find funny is they want a “real war on drugs”.
Then again most western democracies are not controlled by the politicians, they are controlled by their constitutions.

The same forces that looked the other way and allowed Palme to be assassinated are behind the attempted discombobulation of Swedish national identity. NATO then and Nato Now is a big dark shadow in all of these narratives meanwhile the Swedish Chaterrting political and Media classes are as flawed by their Political Correctness as they are elsewhere in the world mixed in with a Naivete that the rest of the EU practices what it preaches when it empirically does not.

Anton “Tony” Chaitkin (born 1943) is an author, historian, and political activist with the LaRouche movement. He serves as History Editor for Executive Intelligence Review.
Chaitkin’s father was Jacob Chaitkin, who was the legal counsel and strategist for the boycott against Nazi Germany carried on by the American Jewish Congress in the 1930s.[1][2] His late sister, Marianna Wertz, and his brother-in-law, William F. Wertz Jr., have also been active in the LaRouche movement.[3]

Brigadier General Albert Pike is a public artwork in Washington, D.C. honoring Albert Pike (1809–1891), a poet, lawyer, soldier, and influential figure in the Scottish Rite of freemasonry. The memorial is sited near the corner of 3rd and D Streets NW in the Judiciary Square neighborhood. The memorial’s two bronze figures were sculpted by Gaetano Trentanove, an Italian-American artist responsible for another Washington, D.C. sculptural landmark, the Daniel Webster Memorial. The dedication ceremony in 1901 was attended by thousands of Masons who marched in a celebratory parade.
The Pike memorial is the only outdoor sculpture in Washington, D.C. honoring a Confederate general. Though Pike is depicted as a Mason, not a soldier, the memorial has often stirred controversy. The memorial is one of 18 Civil War monuments in Washington, D.C., which were collectively listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978. The memorial is owned and maintained by the National Park Service, a federal agency of the Interior Department.

Lyndon Hermyle LaRouche Jr. (September 8, 1922 – February 12, 2019)[1] was an American political activist and founder of the LaRouche movement,[2][3] whose main organization was the National Caucus of Labor Committees (NCLC). He wrote on economic, scientific, and political topics, as well as on history, philosophy, and psychoanalysis. LaRouche was a presidential candidate in each election from 1976 to 2004, running once for his own U.S. Labor Party and seven times for the Democratic Party nomination.
Despite LaRouche’s self-identification with the left and some left-wing policies, his critics have said that he had “fascistic tendencies”, took positions on the far-right, and created disinformation.[4]

Citizens Electoral Council
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Citizens_Electoral_Council
he Citizens Electoral Council of Australia (CEC) is a minor political party in Australia affiliated with the international LaRouche Movement which was led by American political activist Lyndon LaRouche. For the purpose of federal registration with the Australian Electoral Commission it reported having 549 members in 2007.[1] They have been described as “far right”,[2] “fascist” and “lunar right”,[3] as well as “ideologues on the economic Left”.[4] However, the party has campaigned explicitly against “fascism”, which is the term it used for certain policy trends that started under the John Howard-led Coalition government, specifically counter-terrorism laws, for their impact on civil liberties, and the mandatory detention and offshore processing of refugees.[5]
Platform[edit]
In 2001, the Citizens Electoral Council published “What Australia must do to survive the Depression”, that outlines the party’s policy to enact, development programs, writings by Lyndon LaRouche and a brief “history” of how the CEC was eclipsed by Pauline Hanson’s One Nation.[19]
“What Australia must do to survive the Depression” also has draft legislation for “the establishment of a National Bank and State Banks for provide loans at 2% or less to agriculture (family farms), industry and for infrastructure development” that in 2002 they launched a petition drive to support with a full page advertisement in The Australian newspaper.[20] “Rebuild the Country with a People’s Bank” being a predominant slogan on their election material.[21]
In early 2008 the CEC started campaigning for a “Bank Homeowners Protection Bill of 2008”, calling for legislation in the spirit of the Moratorium legislations enacted in the 1920s and 30s by Australian governments.[22]
The official thirteen-point platform is as follows:[23]
- The establishment of a “New Bretton Woods International Monetary System“.
- The establishment of a National Bank and State Banks.
- The repeal of all federal and state anti-union legislation
- The repeal of recent laws, such as the Australian anti-terrorism legislation, 2004, which the CEC believes have “taken away the civil rights of Australians”
- An immediate halt to the privatisation of Commonwealth and State assets and regulatory bodies
- An immediate moratorium on foreclosures of family farms
- The immediate elimination of the National Competition Policy
- The elimination of the Goods and Services Tax
- The reassertion of national control over Australia’s oil and gas and huge mineral resources
- A “dramatic expansion” of resources to all public health facilities
- A “dramatic upgrading” of federal and state infrastructure
- A “real war on drugs”
- The establishment of “generous immigration quotas”
The CEC follows the LaRouche line of scepticism towards the theory of anthropogenic global warming, having lobbied the ABC to screen the film The Great Global Warming Swindle,[24] then packed the audience for a post-program audience discussion with members who made comments about “carbon 14, eugenics, Plato’s cave and Nazism”, referring to fears of global warming as “Hitler-Nazi race science… this will destroy Africa”.[25]
The CEC also makes claims “the Crown, its oil and resource cartels and media assets are responsible for looting Australian Citizens”.[26] And declares the party’s opposition to “synarchists“, which they define as “a name adopted during the Twentieth Century for an occult freemasonic sect, known as the Martinists, based on worship of the tradition of the Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte…twentieth-Century and later fascist movements, like most terrorist movements, are all Synarchist creations”.[27] In opposition the CEC stands for “…a Republic and a government that governs for all the people…”[26]
In its campaign literature, the CEC claims to associate itself with “a tradition” including such Australian figures as the Rev John Dunmore Lang, King O’Malley, William Guthrie Spence, Frank Anstey, Daniel Deniehy, Jack Lang, Ben Chifley and John Curtin. The CEC also seeks to associate itself with a “bygone tradition” of the Australian Labor Party, by which it appears to mean the democratic socialist and protectionist policies abandoned by the ALP since the reforms of Gough Whitlam in the 1960s and 1970s.[28]
The CEC website advocates a number of positions of the worldwide LaRouche movement, including that the Port Arthur massacre, in which Martin Bryant murdered 35 people and injured 37 others, was instigated by mental health institute the Tavistock Institute on the orders of the British Royal Family.[29] and that the Australian Liberal party was founded by pro-Hitler Fascists.[30]

But it is worse than that. Many at the heart of what I might call “Old Labour” still harbour the dark thoughts that led in my youth to support from many trade union members for the views of Enoch Powell – the idea that immigrants depress wages and damage the working class. Unfortunately both Jeremy Corbyn and John MacDonnell, for both of whom I have much respect in general, still harbour this dinosaur opinion.
In July, Jeremy Corbyn said that immigration “would be a managed thing on the basis of the skills required… What there wouldn’t be is whole-scale importation of underpaid workers from central Europe in order to destroy conditions, particularly in the construction industries.”
Illegal People: How Globalization Creates Migration and Criminalizes Immigrants
For two decades David Bacon has documented the connections between labor, migration, and the global economy. In Illegal People he explains why our national policy produces even more displacement, migration, immigration raids, and an increasingly divided and polarized society. Arguing for a sea change in how we think, debate, and legislate about and around immigration, Bacon promotes a human rights perspective in a globalized world.

No because the single market is incompatible with democracy not because of free movement of people but because of free movement of capital and EU state aid rules that are incompatible with democracy. If a deal with the the EU requires being a member of the single market no deal is preferable, I fail to see why a customs union requires restricting State Aid and enabling free movement of capital that makes economic planing and controlling tax evasion well nye impossible and makes countries vulnerable to speculators.
This is why Keynes saught to restrict free movement of capital in the Bretton Woods agreement due to its effect on Germany in the 30s.
This is why the SNPs economic policy is incoherent and economically illiterate as no sovereignty is impossible without control of your currency the control of capital your budget and the ability to control the market via State Aid. If anyone believes Scotland will get a better deal in the EU given the example of Greece and Italy they are deluded. This makes the SNP and Scottish independence an irrelevance.

A Cabinet Office source tells me today No. 10 is considering agreeing a second referendum with three choices: No Deal Brexit, May’s Deal or No Brexit. It would be by alternative vote, ie you rate your preferences 1, 2. The thinking is that the first round might go No Deal 23, May’s Deal 37, No Brexit 40. The second round would then go May’s Deal 60, No Brexit 40.
They claim there is opinion poll evidence to support this. But I see a flaw. It is predicated on the current situation, where a lot of Remainers are prepared to support Brexit, to respect the referendum result. But surely a second referendum would release that psychological constraint and the overwhelming majority of Remainers would seize the opportunity to try and ditch Brexit?

Before and after this most recent and impotent strike on Syria, Israel has claimed of an impending Iranian attack on its territory. Such an attack would – again – serve only as a pretext for the US and its allies to intervene in Syria amid a war Syria and its Russian and Iranian allies have already won.
Israel may stage an attack on its own forces – or an attack on US, British, or French forces in the region may be staged. Unlike an alleged or staged chemical attack on civilians, staging a military attack on Western forces and their regional allies would allow an immediate and much larger military response.

Debt Based Money and Carbon Emissions based money as a religious tokenisation of earth worship is certainly in my view part of the Carbon Trading design. Use of the Climate Change Language is a barrier to understanding the foundations of this new Green Fascism.
The Crisis is one of The Environment, this is a soluble problem. Climate Change is an Esoteric belief system which no one can do anything about except demonstrate obedience and devotion.
And then There is the War Machine. which is another massive point screaming from the article?
I recommend this film on the point.
Ultimately SHADOW WORLD reveals the real costs of war, the way the arms trade drives it, how weapons of war are turned against citizens of liberal democracies and how the trade decreases rather than enhances security for us all. In shedding light on how our realities are being constructed, the film offers a way for audiences to see through this horror, in the hopes of creating a better future.

NARRATOR: It was while studying this community that Catherine Maternowska came across US AID trials of Norplant and was worried at what she found.
CATHERINE MATERNOWSKA: Side-effects in the context of Haitian women’s lives are horrible. With the Norplant users they were extremely severe. Bleeding could go on for 18 months and what this means in a Haitian woman’s life has enormous impact. In Haiti, women don’t have cotex or tampons. That means that they have to use rags. She needs to wash them every morning. Washing is not a simple task at all in Haiti. She has to buy soap which cuts into her finances for her food. To purchase water. A woman who can’t actually purchase the water needs to find the water in the nearby gutters which are filthy, polluted and used for defecation among other things. Another bad side-effect was headaches. A Haitian woman is not able to buy aspirin. They live in very noisy, active, polluted, intense communities and the headaches on top of all this were intolerable. Many women collapsed from this method in sheer exhaustion. They couldn’t go to work, they felt so ill, they were unable to function.
NARRATOR: Just as in Bangladesh, a pattern emerged where it was sometimes difficult for the women to get the Norplant removed. Catherine Maternowska believed local clinics were under pressure to keep women in the trial to make the data look good.
CATHERINE MATERNOWSKA: One woman came in with an infection in her arm. She was a market woman, she carried heavy loads on her head and when she came in asking to get the insert out, the doctor complained and he complained and he looked at me and he was used to having me in the clinic and he said, ‘Oh Cathy, look at this woman, she’s an animal, she wants her Norplant out, she’s an animal. She has to be in the study and she wants it out now. What’s her problem?’ They proceeded to throw her literally onto the table, lie her down so that they could do the, take the Norplant insertion out. They threw her head to the side like this and they gave her the anaesthesia but before the anaesthesia had actually taken effect in her skin they started pulling the inserts out and making incisions and pulling the inserts out. Because the infection in her arm it looked painful, it was red, it was swollen, and the muscle and sinew tissue had grown over the implants, they were pulling and she was wailing, she was why, why, and they continued calling her an animal. I think it’s a sham, it’s disgusting, it appalled me that this kind of research was going on. When someone’s looking for help, looking for a solution to their poverty and what they find is something that just makes their poverty worse, it’s a huge, huge sadness.
NARRATOR: For health workers in Cité Soleil Norplant is one of a long line of contraceptives that have been tested in Haiti over several decades.
ROSE-ANNE AUGUSTE [SUBTITLED): It is important for us to expose how women in poor countries are used as guinea pigs, especially in Haiti, so that they can test their products. Developed countries may not even use these products because the hormone levels are too high. But they use these in experiments on women in poor countries so that they can regulate the levels. Fundamentally, what appears to us in Haiti is that these people have found a laboratory here a slum laboratory – to do whatever they want. And one of the biggest laboratories for the American government is right here in Cité Soleil.
DR. ELTON KESSEL: We have trials of the Quinacrine method going in some 17 countries like India, China, Bangladesh, and the trials are going very well. 100,000 women have had this method without a single fatality being reported.
NARRATOR: Dr. Elton Kessel was the founding director of Family Health International. He now researches Quinacrine in a worldwide operation, masterminded from Dr. Mumford’s basement in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Quinacrine is inserted into the top of the womb where it causes inflammation and scarring in the Fallopian tube, in theory blocking the tube with scar tissue and preventing the sperm from reaching the egg.
STEPHEN MUMFORD: It’s a very simple procedure, takes only a few minutes. It can be done in very primitive settings by people who do not necessarily have a lot of clinical skills. Quinacrine is clearly the cheapest method available in the world and in fact the second cheapest method would probably be more than 100 times as expensive as the Quinacrine method. For $10,000’s worth of Quinacrine pellets, 70,000 women can be sterilised.
INTERVIEWER: Is that a lot of women?
STEPHEN MUMFORD: That’s a lot of women, and a lot of grateful women.
DR. AMY POLLACK: The story of Quinacrine is very unusual. It amazes many people that, despite the fact that this drug has not been approved by any major regulatory body for use in women, it’s been used and distributed to over, you know, 80,000, maybe 100,000 women around the world who’ve been told that it’s a safe and effective method and therefore agreed to use the method. How’s it been done? Just a couple of guys out there running around with suitcases full of the drug who distribute the drug to doctors, primarily, and there’s an appeal because it’s inexpensive and it’s easy to use.
NARRATOR: But some scientists believe the drug could put women’s lives at risk – from cancer and ectopic pregnancy. And they question this entire approach to sterilisation.
PROF. SHREE MULAY: This method of producing scar tissue is extremely barbaric. to try to damage the tissue so that you produce inflammation and block the tubes that way I think is extremely crude. It is imprecise for sure because one does not know where exactly that is going to take place and it causes a tremendous amount of pain because of the inflammation. There has been a long history of chemical sterilisation research and this history is really an ugly one and it’s quite a shocking one because all kinds of agents have been used – sulphuric acid, formaldehyde – all of these agents which actually burn the tissue and cause production of scar tissue. Chemical sterilisation was first tried out by the Nazis in their very first experiments in the death camps. That it has been picked up in the 60s, 70s and the 80s and been promoted as rescue for the women of the Third World I think is quite extraordinary.
STEPHEN MUMFORD: We’re seeing 500,000 women die per year. Every day women die because of unwanted fertility that could be treated with this method.
INTERVIEWER: And you’re going to save them?
STEPHEN MUMFORD: That’s… I’m not going to save them, they’re going to save themselves by electing this if the thing is made available, if the method is made available. We know these women want this method.
AMY POLLACK: What kills women in childbirth is horrible obstetrical services totally inadequate services that exist around the world. Not only are they bad services, but they’re services provided for women who want to have children, and those women are not going to choose sterilisation. So women who don’t choose sterilisation and choose to get pregnant are not going to be saved by Quinacrine. The numbers that are presented to us don’t take that into account at all.
NARRATOR: The World Health Organisation has stated that no further Quinacrine research in women is justified until further laboratory tests have been completed.

Mikhail Borisovich Khodorkovsky (Russian: Михаи́л Бори́сович Ходорко́вский, IPA: [mʲɪxɐˈiɫ xədɐrˈkofskʲɪj]; born 26 June 1963) is an exiled Russian businessman, philanthropist and former oligarch,[3] now resident in Switzerland.[4] In 2003, Khodorkovsky was believed to be the wealthiest man in Russia (with a fortune estimated to be worth $15 billion) and was ranked 16th on Forbes list of billionaires.[5] He had worked his way up the Komsomol apparatus during the Soviet years, and started several businesses during the period of glasnost and perestroika in the late 1980s. After the dissolution of the Soviet Union, in the mid-1990s, he accumulated considerable wealth by obtaining control of a number of Siberian oil fields unified under the name Yukos, one of the major companies to emerge from the privatization of state assets during the 1990s (a scheme known as “Loans for Shares“).

Roger Lewis What are you saying? That banking interests are manipulating us into ridiculing the truth teller Trump? Hi Ranjan, The way Oligarchy works is not soley through the System of Usury. Usury is but one social control mechanism. The Media is another and equally important social control mechanism, another is political representative politics.
Toby Russel tackles these questions in this Blog, the Danistocracy Graphic is instructive in that it places Media above Political theatre in the hierarchy of control importance.
´´the ruling Elite, Hybridised Oligarchy call it what you will as a Danistocracy borrowed from Popp and Albrecht, http://thdrussell.blogspot.se/…/12/from-here-to-there.html The medias role as the fourth Estate is brought center stage in this analysis with the Political Theater relegated to a role subservient to or co-mingled with the Main Stream media´´

There are then notions of received, accepted and popular wisdom, the things we take for granted, the ´Settled Science
´´or ´´Consensus ´´Viewpoint. Beware the thought Police neither the God Squad or the Science Mob have a monopoly on policing thought crime against their Dogmas and they all have plenty of Dogma to go around. Michel Foucault got at this notion of the In Group bias of what Polyani called the Science republic. It applies equally well to any formalised structure of allowed realities I find; secular, scientific, political or religious.
”I would define the episteme retrospectively as the strategic apparatus which permits of separating out from among all the statements which are possible those that will be acceptable within, I won’t say a scientific theory, but a field of scientificity, and which it is possible to say are true or false. The episteme is the ‘apparatus’ which makes possible the separation, not of the true from the false, but of what may from what may not be characterised as scientific.” Michel Foucault.

FEEDING THE WORLD. MALTHUS WASN´T SUCH A MISERABLE OLD MISANTHROPE APPARENTLY.VACLAV SMIL, ALBERT BARTLETT ENERGY ECONOMICS AND NO ALARMISM.
Extreme carrying capacity estimates go far outside the broad, fourfold range bracketed by the estimates just cited. They have been defined by true believers in the antipodal camps of catastrophist and cornucopian futures. A generation ago Ehrlich (1968) wrote that “the battle to feed all humanity is over” and that “hundreds of millions of people are going to starve to death” during the 1970s.2 Ehrlich’s global population maximum would have to be well below the 1970 total of about 3.7 billion people. In contrast, Simon (1981) maintained that food has no long-run, physi-cal limit. These extremes leave us either with the prospect of eliminating about half of humanity in order to return the worldwide count to a sup-portable level or with visions of crop harvests surpassing the mass of the planet itself.3 As Sauvy (1990[1949]: 774) noted crisply, “Lack of precision in data and in method of analysis allows shortcuts toward reaching an ob-jective predetermined by prejudice, shaped largely either by faith in progress or by conservative skepticism.” Unfortunately, less extreme estimates have been hardly more impressive. Because the question of the ultimate support capacity cannot have a single correct answer, assessing the value of past estimates must be done by looking at their assumptions. Too many of them are overly simplistic, and even the more elaborate ones are usually difficult to defend. In general, the capacity predictions assume too much-as well as too little. Most notably, they almost completely ignore the demand side of the question.
It is energy that provides prosperity not monetary measures of the distribution of energy wealth. Energy Infrastructure like other fundamental infrastructure provides the fundamental building blocks for our current level of Civilisation it is a common good and Energy Markets distort the realities of what optimal levels of energy output can be. The more energy we can produce the better, high levels of EROI lead to better wellbeing outcomes.

Assumptions of Artifical scarcity and indeed actual reductions in energy outputs of energy resources leads to the destruction of human life, similarly, waste generated by a need to provide artificial scarcity to support monopoly profit levels of price also lead to environmental destruction.

GLOBAL WARMING OR GLOBAL GOVERNANCE?
By Dr. Michael S. Coffman Ph. D.
August 15, 2007
NewsWithViews.com
The cover of the August 13, 2007 issue of Newsweek sports a picture of a very active sun with a title Global Warming is a Hoax. But the cover story isnt about how the man-caused global warming hysteria is a hoax. Oh, no, it is just the opposite. It is a diatribe about how those who are skeptical about mans influence on climate are denying the truth and are undermining the true science. Science that allegedly shows without a doubt that man is causing global warming. The articles title, The Truth About Denial, provides the lead-in for the accusation that the skeptics are receiving millions of dollars (primarily from big oil, of course) to provide research disproving man-caused global warming. The author, Sharon Begley, accused Exxon alone of giving $19 million to such efforts.
Nineteen million dollars since 1990 is a lot of money until it is compared to the whooping $50 billion that has fed the man-caused global warming hysteria. You read it correctly, that is $50 billion. Of course, Newsweek conveniently left that bit of information out of its article.

Dr. Michael Coffman received his BS in Forestry and MS in Biology at Northern Arizona University at Flagstaff, Arizona and his Ph.D. in Forest Science at the University of Idaho at Moscow. He taught courses and conducted research in forest ecology and forest community dynamics for ten years at Michigan Technological University, a leading forestry school in the Midwest. Until 1992 Dr. Coffman was a manager for Champion International, a leading forest and paper products company in the United States. He was responsible for millions of dollars of research on global warming and became intimately involved in such national and international issues. Dr. Coffman is currently President of Environmental Perspectives, Inc. (EPI). He provides professional guidance and training in defining environmental problems and conflicts, and developing solutions to specific issues as well as the hidden dangers of international treaties and agreements that threaten our Constitutional protections, especially property rights. He played a key role in stopping the ratification of the Convention on Biological Diversity (Biodiversity Treaty) in the U.S. Senate one hour before the ratification vote. He has written many books exposing the attack on our Constitution and personal liberties; including, Plundered, Rescuing a Broken America, and Radical Islam In The House. He has also produced numerous videos, the most recent are two in which numerous scientists explain why global warming cannot be caused by man. Dr. Coffman is frequently authors articles on national and global issues.

Brexit: The UK Will NOT Leave

Why are Tories pursuing Tony’s Blair’s “essential” policy of EU Defence Union?

Paper denying HIV–AIDS link secures publication
Work by infamous AIDS contrarian passes peer review.
This is the tip of the iceberg of the regulatory capture and corruption of peer review process.
The EU is captured by the Lobbyist complex as much as Washington and any of the other Corporate “Democracies”
Professor Bruce Charlton was hounded from his Journal for Publishing a research paper challenging the link between HIV and Aids, Clive Spash resigned from CIRso in Australia when the Aussie quango’s higher ups wanted to censor his paper critiquing Carbon Trading credits.
This portmento of quotes from We Pragmatists by (Haack) attributed to C S Pierce
In order to
reason well …. it is absolutely necessary to possess … such virtues
as intellectual honesty and sincerity a
nd a real love of truth (2.82). The cause [of the success of scientific
inquirers] has been that the motive which has carried them
to the laboratory and the field has been a craving to
know how things really were … (1-34).
[Genuine inquiry consists I in diligent inquiry into truth for truth’s sake
(1.44), … in actually drawing the bow upon truth with in
tentness in the eye, with energy in the arm (1.235).
[When] it is no longer the reasoning which determines wh
at the conclusion shall be, but … the conclusion which
determines what the reasoning shall be … this is sham
reasoning…. The effect of this shamming is that men
come to look upon reasoning as mainly decorative….

@RogerLewis: “Professor Bruce Charlton was hounded from his Journal for Publishing a research paper challenging the link between HIV and Aids”
As I wrote on a previous thread, scientists do not ‘hound’ people for proposing a thesis (even though they might question their sanity). They simply test whether the idea corresponds with: 1. objective measurements & 2. a web of ideas which do (more or less) correspond with objective measurement.
I do not know about Prof.Charlton but I have disagreed with Peter Duesberg’s thesis for decades; nevertheless I am pleased to read this from Nature | News:
Paper denying HIV–AIDS link secures publication
https://www.nature.com/news/paper-denying-hiv-aids-link-secures-publication-1.9737
“The truth rarely, if ever, convinces its opponents; it simply outlives them”. — “Mad” Max Planck, proposer of that quantum theory which Einstein later described as the very definition of insanity: repeating an experiment and expecting a different result.
From 2003 to 2010, Charlton was the solo-editor of the journal Medical Hypotheses, published by Elsevier.[4] After HIV/AIDS denier Peter Duesberg published a paper in Medical Hypothesis arguing that “there is as yet no proof that HIV causes AIDS”, the journal came under fire for its lack of peer review. The paper was withdrawn from the journal citing concerns over the paper’s quality and “that [it] could potentially be damaging to global public health.” Elsevier consequently revamped the journal to introduce peer review, firing Charlton from his position as editor, due to his resistance of these changes.[5]
vexarb I do like your falling back on the no true Scotsman fallacy.
Charlton lost his editorship for not censoring a scientific paper, or supressing a scientific paper to be mmore accurate.
The peer review process is a sort of arrangement to promote in group biases and extend outlived paradigms.
The problem with modern science is that often repeated experiments do not obtain the same result thats a different sort of insanity , I call it Oligarchical psychosis.
First, there is the Replication Crisis.
This is the canary in the coalmine of the scientific crisis in general because it tells us that a surprising percentage of scientific studies, even ones published in top-tier academic journals that are often thought of as the gold standard for experimental research, cannot be reliably reproduced. This is a symptom of a larger crisis because reproducibility is considered to be a bedrock of the scientific process.

I stand by my claim: Elsevier and the people who wanted Duesberg’s hypothesis retracted on social grounds are no true Scotsmen. Whereas the Italians who published it, are true Scotsmen.
I have other bad things to say about Elsevier, but shall not vent them here because you are probably aware of recent criticisms that Elsevier impose a financial stranglehold on scientific publication.
