Tax authority and corporate executive | 1894-1960 | Cedar RapidsBeardsley Ruml (5 November 1894 – 19 April 1960) was an American statistician, economist, philanthropist, planner, businessman and man of affairs in the 1920s, 1930s and 1940s. He was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
In 1945, Ruml made a famous speech to the ABA, asserting that since the end of the gold standard, “Taxes for Revenue are Obsolete”. The real purposes of taxes were: to “stabilize the purchasing power of the dollar”, to “express public policy in the distribution of wealth and of income”, “in subsidizing or in penalizing various industries and economic groups” and to “isolate and assess directly the costs of certain national benefits, such as highways and social security”. This is seen as a forerunner of functional finance or chartalism.
Ruml wrote several books and essays, including “The Interest Rate Problem,” “Memo to a college trustee: A report on financial and structural problems of the liberal college,” “Government, Business, and Values,” and “Tomorrow’s Business.”
Ruml died April 19, 1960, in Danbury, CT.

FitzGerald’s translation is rhyming and metrical, and rather free. Many of the verses are paraphrased, and some of them cannot be confidently traced to his source material at all.[23] Michael Kearney claimed that FitzGerald described his work as “transmogrification”.[24] To a large extent, the Rubaiyat can be considered original poetry by FitzGerald loosely based on Omar’s quatrains rather than a “translation” in the narrow sense.
FitzGerald was open about the liberties he had taken with his source material:
My translation will interest you from its form, and also in many respects in its detail: very un-literal as it is. Many quatrains are mashed together: and something lost, I doubt, of Omar’s simplicity, which is so much a virtue in him. (letter to E. B. Cowell, 9/3/58)
I suppose very few People have ever taken such Pains in Translation as I have: though certainly not to be literal. #Creorder Power as Capital. What Are we looking for in a solution and for whom?
Part of the Just in time Lean delivery model of the NHS is to foster efficiency and also to focus on prevention and averting demand, all laudable goals.
The Lockdown and Mask narratives sit uneasily though, with the data which sees the NHS in seasonal crises and high occupancy levels on a regular basis. All of this against a backdrop of a precipitous fall in Acute and General hospital bed spaces over the past 10 years.
The other noticeable aim of the Managed demand Customer pull model is to encourage vaccinations and also digital interaction. Such measure whilst every technocrats idea of common sense efficiency do not sit well where they are Mandated, Compulsory or the subject of coercion. The degree of Coercion evident in the Narratives from Mr Johnson’s Government’s handling of the Epidemic do seem more sensibly explained by the notion of not letting a good crisis going to waste. Sneaking in a health cuckoo in the democratic freedoms nest as it were.
One final observation is the apparent disappearance of Flu and pneumonia at what would be the usual expected average seasonal levels the Data for those can be found in the general Sheets spreadsheet I have put together with the relevant figures as I have extracted them to make this simple case which is an indictment of a failure in the planning to provide for Black Swan events and not even a regular flu season as there was in 2019.
