After reading Physics at Oxford Jasper Tomlinson pursued his early career in science and engineering becoming a senior manager in Vickers Ltd. In the mid 1970s he was an independent consultant in tropical water resource development .
From 2006 he turned his focus to Molten Salt Nuclear Reactor technology and in 2013 secured a £100,000 government award, the outcome of which is the subject of today’s event. He is currently seeking a much bigger grant which would further establish this new era in nuclear technology.

My original criticism of the Monetary metrics of mixed with those of Seeds Energy metrics
simply falls down. Solving the current problems with the metrology of a failed debt-based monetary system is doomed to failure.

The April 2015 edition of The
Environment included an
advertisement featuring Sir
David Attenborough, as
patron of Population Matters,
emphasising the difficulties of addressing
environmental problems in a world with
ever more people. Sir David and I are
both from about the same generation. He
was good enough in a brief exchange of
letters in 2011 to share his thoughts with
me on the way forward in addressing
global population growth. His letter was
in reply to a suggestion from me that
improved global access to abundant,
sustainable, affordable energy is a
necessary part of the way forward.
However, even if practical, Sir David
suspected that rather than address the
problem, it might do quite the reverse,
encouraging human beings to think that
there is no need to curb their ever-
expanding energy consumption and thus
perpetrate further devastation on the
natural world.
Deep division of opinion on these
lines is apparent in any consideration of
‘green’ initiatives. I am grateful for this
opportunity to set out my stall,
presenting a case for techno-optimism.
